After successfully completing the drive-in mission, ICFF presented by Lavazza goes back to the theatres inaugurating a brand-new open-air village

The festival dedicates its Opening to the Academy Award Winner, Ennio Morricone with many guests and an edition filled with special events

TORONTO – The Italian Contemporary Film Festival (ICFF), organized in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy in Ottawa, the Consulate General of Italy in Toronto, the Consulate General of Italy in Montreal, the Italian Institutes of Culture in Toronto and Montreal, and the Italian Trade Agency, is proud to announce its plan for the eleventh edition of the Festival that this year will take place in Toronto, Hamilton, Montreal and other Canadian cities both at open-air theatres and in cinemas. The Festival will begin on June 24th, 2022, the month dedicated to the celebration of Italy in Canada, and it will end on July 16th, 2022.

After two years of great successes with the drive-in festival, ICFF moves from Ontario Place to Distillery District with a brand-new concept of an open-air village dedicated to art and culture. The Festival is also happy to go back to the theatres with many screenings and events at the renowned cinema of the Toronto International Film Festival and in the cinemas of Toronto, Hamilton and Montreal, together with an online program ‘ICFF at Home’ available across Canada thanks to the digital platform in collaboration with TIFF.

“The Lavazza Group is very proud to renew its commitment as presenting sponsor of the Italian Contemporary Film Festival, a well-established signature event for many years in the city of Toronto”, says Andrea Chiaramello, Head of Lavazza, Canada. “The Festival is an outstanding event which recognizes, supports and celebrates the incredible bond between Italy and the cinema industry”.

This year, ICFF dedicates part of its program to Ennio Morricone, one of the most brilliant musicians, composers and musical artists who has revolutionized cinema and whose career recounts and encompasses the history of contemporary cinema. On this occasion, the Festival will present the multi-awarded documentary “Ennio” directed by Giuseppe Tornatore featuring many special guests and stars in attendance.

The Festival is an important moment for the city of Toronto and this year it will be held at The Distillery Historic District, one of Canada’s premier arts, culture and entertainment destinations, where ICFF will create a cinema village with open-air screenings showcasing heartwarming films, captivating installations, visual art exhibits, and gourmet tastings upholding the “made in Italy” brand. Italian elegance and entertainment will be at the forefront of this edition: the festival confirms all its special events promoting the various facets of Italian excellence from fashion to cuisine, from literature to architecture and design, and from sport to music.

In addition to its Italian programming, the ICFF will enhance its mission of reconnecting communities and highlighting the dynamism and richness of Canada’s multicultural society with the Lavazza IncluCity Festival that will take place starting from June 27th, Canada Multiculturalism Day.
