North York’s Emery Village BIA hosts drive-in movie night to honour COVID-19 heroes

  • June 5, 2021

North York’s Emery Village BIA will be hosting an Italian Contemporary Film Festival (ICFF) event in honour of COVID-19 heroes.

The BIA is a sponsor of ICFF’s Lavazza Drive-in International Film Festival, which runs June 27 to July 17 at Ontario Place.

As part of the sponsorship, the BIA will host the Emery Drive-in Movie Night on June 30 (at 7:30 p.m. at Ontario Place) and will give away free tickets to front-line and essential workers to honour them, the BIA said in a news release. More than 150 car passes will be available to COVID-19 heroes. The passes include admission for four people per car, a snack bag and a medium pizza. Registration for passes will open at noon on June 15 on the Emery Village BIA website, www.emeryvillagebia.ca.

“We are proud and excited to be sponsoring ICFF’s Lavazza Drive-in International Film Festival this year,” Sandra Farina, Emery Village BIA executive director, said in the release. “Our essential workers have been working tirelessly to support our communities, and this is just one way we are giving back. A night at the drive-in with members of their household provides a fun and safe way to relax and enjoy the summer.”

In addition to the feature film, Las Pildroas De mi Novio starring Jason Alexander, the Emery Drive-In-Movie night will feature a special appearance by Italian-Australian comedian and guest star Joe Avati.

The Emery Village BIA, formed in 2003, is Canada’s largest Business Improvement Area with more than 3,200 commercial, industrial and retail establishments employing about 28,000 people.
