To comply with the restrictions in place, the program will feature a hybrid formula incorporating in-person and remote presentations and participation, this way enabling to reach a wider base of filmmakers and film experts from both sides of the ocean. Industry Day will focus on four different topics, which will be thoroughly explored through dynamic panel discussions with some of the most esteemed names in the Canadian and Italian film industries:

After these unprecedented and sudden changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we must look forward with a different gaze and approach.
The panel discussion, The Future of Public Screenings will focus on the following key points and queries: what will the evolution of the cinema experience look like? These past years, we have seen re-innovated formats of public screenings, such as the drive-ins and open-air theatres, flourish and become the prime occasions to enjoy cinema together. Will they become a mainstay in the entertainment industry, or will they leave space for something new? What are some innovations cinemas worldwide are considering to relaunch their halls?
The discussion will feature important leaders in the field and will serve as a moment to propose new ideas to enhance the film-viewing experience going forward.

IN CONVERSATION WITH… DEANA MARTIN AND TEAM BEHIND 'THE KING OF COOL'

This segment will feature an insightful conversation with the creators, producers, and director of the extraordinary documentary on Dean Martin, Dean Martin: King of Cool. Filmmaker Tom Donahue explores Martin’s varied career, including his complicated relationships with Jerry Lewis, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr, and others. In the documentary we hear from admirers such as critic Gerald Early, actor Jon Hamm, and Hip-Hop artist RZA who testify to Martin’s enduring mystique. Special guests and speakers will be:

INTERNATIONAL ANIMATION

In the years, animation has changed and developed from a series of hand-drawn characters to a fully digital animated world that lives and thrives thanks to advanced programs. The evolution of animation has not only changed the quality of the image but it has also transformed storytelling, introducing an infinite new slate of possibilities and stories to tell.
The conference will discuss and elaborate on the future of animation after COVID-19 and how has the animation industry changed during this time.
The discussion will also focus on highlighting the difference and similarities between European and North American Animation.

Iervolino Studios presents Puffins, an animated web series starring Johnny Depp as Johnny Puff.

Launched last year to give a spotlight to the talents who have been advancing the film industry worldwide, this edition of Industry Day will once again host a segment dedicated to renowned Italian, Canadian and American producers, directors, and masters in the craft of cinema, who will talk about their experience in the field and the importance of collaborations and co-productions.

MATCH MAKING SESSION

During the Match-Making Session, producers, directors, and filmmakers from Italy and Canada will be able to meet, network, and kick-start new collaborations. The match-making sessions on November 30th will focus on international animation featuring a slate of key players in the field and creatives who look forward to connecting and forging relationships with other animators and filmmakers.

CO-PRODUCTION ITALY-CANADA

Industry Day 2021 will maintain its commitment to set the path for future co-productions and Italian-Canadian relationships by focusing part of its program on this very valuable topic. During all our previous editions, we have succeeded in creating opportunities for Canadians and Italians to cooperate and bring to life a project, born by the union of these two countries, and our goal is to continue to do so with Industry Day and throughout the year. Thanks to the unfaltering support of the Istituto Italiano di Cultura, and the collaboration with Telefilm Canada, ICE, ANICA, and Ontario Creates, ICFF will continue highlighting the key value of co-productions, while also promoting Italy and its territories as destinations for film and TV productions. All panel discussions will feature a slate of incredible representatives from both sides of the ocean which will underline the differences and similarities existing between Italy and Canada and how these two major cinema industries can collaborate.

Virtual Production has taken hold of the industry and is the next big evolution of content creation. The time is now to understand how you can use Virtual Production in your shots and why. Come learn about Virtual Production and see a live set, listen to industry leaders discuss when to use Virtual Production and why, get an international perspective on the growth of Virtual Production and finally start or continue your journey into the powerful world of Virtual Production. Industry experts will discuss SIRT’s new Virtual Production Innovation Hub that provides universal access to virtual production and serves as a technology sandbox that encourages access, inclusion, innovation, and knowledge sharing. A guest panel of experts will discuss the latest developments in virtual production innovation and how these advancements are pivotal to the advancement of workflows and processes within the film industry and beyond. The panel discussion will also take a deep dive into the pivoting topics of equity, fairness, and access to the technologies available from filmmakers and different social groups.
