PLOT : Inspired by true events, Los Frikis is a coming-of-age story set in early 1990s Cuba. Gustavo idolizes his older brother Paco and Paco’s punk band, the “Frikis.” Amid the crushing economic crisis, the Frikis hear of a rare opportunity: a government-run treatment home offering relief from their hardships. In a desperate search for freedom and a place to express themselves, they deliberately injected themselves with HIV to live at the treatment center. Within its walls, the band builds their own utopia, a sanctuary where they can live openly and play music freely, defying the limitations imposed by society and circumstance.

Tyler Nilson, Michael Schwartz. are an American filmmaking duo known for their emotionally resonant, character-driven storytelling. Schwarts is a producer, director, and writer, and Nilson is a director, actor, writer, and producer. They began their career together directing the short film The Moped Diaries (2014), capturing their personal and emotionally grounded style They rose to prominence with their debut feature, The Peanut Butter Falcon (2019), a heartwarming adventure starring Shia LaBeouf, Dakota Johnson, and Zack Gottsagen, which became the highest-grossing indie film of the year. In 2024, they returned with Los Frikis, a powerful coming-of-age drama inspired by true events in 1990s Cuba.
