Giuseppe "Pupi" Avati est un réalisateur, producteur et scénariste italien. Il s'est fait connaître pour ses films à suspense des années 1970, films d'horreur tels que ‘La maison aux fenêtres qui rient’ (1976) et ‘Zeder’ (1983). Il a réalisé plus de cinquante projets et a remporté plusieurs prix David di Donatello - notamment pour ‘Une histoire de garçons et de filles’ (1989) et ‘Le cœur ailleurs’ (2003). Il est nommé, avec Tommaso Avati, pour le meilleur scénario adapté au prix David di Donatello pour ‘Elle me parle encore’.
