PLOT : Comandante is the gripping true story about the Italian Royal Navy submarine Cappellini during a dark night near the beginning of WWII. Cappellini sinks an armed merchant ship. At that moment, Cappellini's commander, Salvatore Todaro, makes a choice that will save the 26 shipwrecked Belgians who would have drowned in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and get them to safety at the nearest harbour - the commander takes the men onboard the submarine. However, Salvatore will have to survive on the surface of the water for three days in order to make room for Belgians on board. Cappellini is visible to enemy forces - endangering both his and his men's lives.
Edoardo De Angelis. is a director, screenwriter and producer. Once he graduated from the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, he made his debut film, Mozzarella Stories [2011]. In 2016, De Angelis made Indivisibili, a story of Siamese twins, which won the Pasinetti Prize for "Best Film" at the Venice Film Festival. Not only has he directed numerous films, but De Angelis has also directed for the stage, such as Giacomo Puccini's opera Tosca at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples in 2020. Recently, Edoardo De Angelis is working on his film Comandante. The film is inspired by Salvatore Todaro, a submarine commander during WWII, and his effort to save his enemies.
