Shelley Niro

Shelley Niro is a multi-disciplinary artist and a member of the Six Nations Reserve, Turtle Clan, and Bay of Quinte Mohawk and has worked in various media, including beadwork, painting, and film. Growing up, Niro was always interested in storytelling and would explore these interests with her family. Due to this experience, Niro finds ways to incorporate family into the art. Niro began delving more into films like Honey Moccasin (1998). Niro has been celebrated for her work and has presented films at prestigious festivals, such as the Venice Biennal and the Sundance Film Festival. Recently, Shelley Niro directed, wrote, and produced Café Daughter, a story about a young girl embracing her Cree ancestry.
