Born in Rome in 1914, Bo Bardi was an Italian-Brazilian architect, set designer, editor, illustrator, furniture designer, and curator. Through a series of choreographed performances and multiple screen installations, the film showcases Bo Bardi’s extraordinary legacy and the significant impact her work had on the 20th century Latin American Modernist architecture movement. The film focuses on Bo Bardi’s most iconic buildings and creative projects. Throughout the film, director Isaac Julien highlights the extraordinary legacy of Bo Bardi’s work and the lasting impact she had as an artist.
Isaac Julien. is a critically acclaimed international artist, filmmaker and director. His solo exhibitions have been showcased at various art galleries including, Centre Pompidou, Paris; Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego; Institute of Contemporary Arts, Boston; and Kestnergesellschaft, Hannover. As a filmmaker, Julien’s films have been a part of an impressive list of film festivals such as Cannes Film Festival, Berlin Biennale, and Venice Film Festival. With all his work, Julien has a vision of constructing powerful visual narratives through multi-screen film installations. He does this by working to remove the barriers between different artistic disciplines including film, dance, photography, music, sculpture and painting.
