PLOT : La Rosa dell’Istria depicts the drama of Istrian and Dalmatian exiles after the post-war Armistice. Eighteen-year-old Maddalena, who dreams of becoming a painter, lives in Kanfanaro, Istria. Her dreams are shattered when World War II begins. Yugoslav partisans arrive, forcing Maddalena and her family to flee their home. The film captures their struggle and displacement during these turbulent times, highlighting themes of resilience, loss, and the search for identity amid chaos. Maddalena’s journey is both heart-wrenching and inspiring. Directed by Tiziana Aristarco, La Rosa dell’Istria is a compelling film that is loosely based on Graziella Fiorentin's novel, 'Who’s Afraid of the Black Man?'.

Her journey into the cinematic world began with her involvement in the writing process of the acclaimed film "The Girl from Via Millelire" (1980). Since then, Aristarco has left an indelible mark with her directorial prowess, helming a diverse array of projects. Among her notable works is the TV series "Destino ha 4 Zampe" (2002), "L'amore non Basta" (2005), "Racontami" (2006), and "Compagni Di Scuola" (2001), along with the film "Mina Settembre" (2021-2022). Aristarco's latest directorial endeavour, "La Rosa dell’Istria" (2024), delicately explores the plight of Istrian exiles in the aftermath of the post-war Armistice.
