PLOT : The film is the story of The Giro d'Italia -Tour of Italy. Incepted in 1909, the tour is an annual multiple-stage bicycle race primarily held in Italy, while also occasionally passing through nearby countries. The film takes the audience on a journey through the archive footage of the Istituto Luce to experience the emotions of the Giro d'Italia, as well as visit the world of cycling from A to Z. Words, images, legends and testimonies from Davide Cassani, Romano Prodi, Massimo Cacciari, Ernesto Colnago, Giorgio Squinzi, Francesco Moser, Achille Bonito Oliva, Vincenzo Nibali, Felice Gimondi and Enrico Brizzi recount one of the most challenging and rewarding sport races.
Andrea Gropplero. is an Italian producer, writer, and director. In 1988 he opened his own film production company Pidgin which produced Paolo Fiore Angelini’s film Paris, Dabar(2003) and Gropplero’s documentary film Comunismo Futuro(2017). The film analyzes communism in the 21stcentury using archives from Russia and Italy and their communist movements. Gropplero focuses largely on documentary films. His short film Quando l'Italia mangiava in bianco e nero(2015) takes an in-depth look at the eating and cooking traditions of Italians and how they have changed to constitute what is “good food”. His most recent documentary colore della fatica(2021) follows the harrowing event that is the Tour of Italy.
