PLOT : What began as a short film collaboration between director Dean Fleischer-Camp and actor-comedian Jenny Slate has turned into something so much bigger and so much cuter than anyone could have predicted. Marcel the Shell with Shoes On came out in 2010 as a 3-minute mockumentary short following the life of a seashell named Marcel. After unprecedented success, Marcel has now gotten his own feature-length film! This time the story follows Marcel as he ekes out a life alongside his grandmother Connie and their pet lint, Alan. Marcel laments his family’s mysterious disappearance, alluding to a tragedy that has withered a once-thriving community down to only two survivors. A chance encounter with documentary filmmaker Dean brings Marcel’s story to millions; what ensues is a heartwarming story about the lengths we all go through to find ourselves.
Dean Fleischer-Camp. is an award-winning filmmaker and New York Times best selling author who gained notoriety, in 2010, with the release of his YouTube short film mockumentary series Marcel the Shell with Shoes On. He gained further notoriety for his controversial documentary film Fraud, released in 2016. He has directed for HBO, Adult Swim, Disney Interactive and Comedy Central.
