PLOT : Mariano De Santis, the aging President of the Italian Republic, approaches the end of his mandate while quietly reflecting on the responsibilities and sacrifices of a life devoted to public service. A widower and a man of deep moral conviction, he faces two difficult requests for presidential pardons that force him to confront profound ethical dilemmas. As these decisions intertwine with his private life and lingering memories of his late wife, Mariano must balance duty, compassion, and the weight of political authority. Through moments of introspection and quiet tension, La grazia explores doubt, love, and the moral responsibility of leadership in a complex and uncertain world.
Paolo Sorrentino. An internationally acclaimed Italian filmmaker celebrated for his visually rich and philosophical storytelling. Born in Naples, he gained global recognition with films such as Il Divo (2008) and the Academy Award–winning The Great Beauty (2013). His work often blends satire, melancholy, and striking imagery to explore themes of power, beauty, and existential reflection. Sorrentino later earned further acclaim with The Hand of God (2021), a deeply personal film inspired by his youth. With La grazia, he reunites with longtime collaborator Toni Servillo to create a contemplative drama about politics, morality, and the emotional solitude of leadership.
